WILLMAR — The Kandiyohi County Board is expected to take action this coming week on whether to seek architectural proposals for renovation at the county jail.

The board meets at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the boardroom at the Kandiyohi County Health and Human Services Building, 2200 23rd St. N.E., Willmar.

The proposed renovation, which came under discussion earlier this year, would increase the number of holding cells at the jail and help ease the strain of boarding more prisoners for longer periods of time, particularly individuals with mental illness who end up in jail.

A request for proposals for architectural services is one of the first steps the County Board must take toward final approval of the project.

At their meeting Tuesday, the County Commissioners also will take action on calling for the sale of general obligation sewer revenue refunding bonds and receive an overview of phase 1 project design and engineering for upcoming improvements to the Glacial Lakes Sanitary Sewer and Water System.
