WILLMAR - The Kandiyohi County Board of Commissioners turned the page Tuesday to a new year, swearing in three board members whose terms start this year and electing officers for 2017.

It was the first official meeting for Steve Ahmann, the former Willmar City Councilman who was elected in November to represent the Second Commissioner District for the next four years.

Taking the oath of office Tuesday along with Ahmann were Roger Imdieke and Harlan Madsen, who both were re-elected to new terms. Imdieke represents the Fourth District and Madsen represents the Fifth.

The commissioners chose Imdieke to continue as chairman of the board for a second year. Rollie Nissen was named vice chair.

Board members spent a considerable portion of their meeting Tuesday on appointments to more than 60 committees, ranging from the county Planning Commission and the Kandiyohi County Housing and Redevelopment Authority to the Veterans Service Advisory Board, aquatic invasive species task force and Southern Prairie Community Care joint powers board.

Most of the committees require representation by one or more County Commissioners and/or county staff. Several of the appointments also were for members of the public who serve on county advisory boards and task forces.

In a final piece of the annual reorganization process, the board awarded a bid to the West Central Tribune of Willmar to be the county's official newspaper for publishing legal notices in 2017.
