WILLMAR -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency declared today that federal aid has been made available for Kandiyohi, Meeker and 11 other Minnesota counties to supplement state, tribal and local recovery efforts in areas affected by severe storms and flooding during the period of June 14-21.

Severe weather June 17 produced wind up to 78 mph, funnel clouds, hail and lightning, and 2 to 4 inches of rain. Fallen trees knocked down power poles, resulting in power outages in Atwater and Grove City, and some homes, vehicles, farm buildings, and athletic fields at Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City High School, were damaged.

Heavy rainfall caused temporary flooding at low-lying intersections in Willmar, where 3½ to 4 inches of rain fell.
