PAYNESVILLE -- Karen M. (Ness) Snyder, 81, of Paynesville, died Saturday at the Koronis Manor in Paynesville.

The service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church in Paynesville. Burial will take place at Grandview Cemetery in Gary, S.D.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Daniel- Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville and after 9 a.m. on Thursday at the church.

She was born June 28, 1924, in Deuel County, S. D., to Oscar and Gertie (Peterson) Anderson. She attended Mount Pleasant School and graduated from South Dakota State School of Agriculture High School. She married Oscar Ness on July 26, 1942.

She was an active leader in church activities and Extension service programs in Brandt, S.D. and she organized a 4-H club, taught classes for the extension service and was active in church in Graceville. She also had her own business where she catered, decorated cakes and designed and sewed wedding gowns.

She was a breast cancer survivor at the age of 36. After illness caused them to move south, she and Oscar launched a go-kart track in Tucson, Ariz., Phoenix, Ariz. and Amarillo, Texas. She also operated a sewing school and business in Garland, Texas.

They later moved back to Minnesota and became co-owners of the Uptown Motel in Alexandria and the Arthur Motel in Benson. She was active in Our Redeemer's Church Ladies Aid and was a member of the Coterie Club and local TOPS chapter in Benson.

After Oscar died in 1975, she moved to Morris where she was a chef and coordinated special events at the Sunwood Inn. On Dec. 30, 1989, she married Harry Snyder. The couple lived in Paynesville where she continued her involvement with church and the Litchfield.

She is survived by her husband: Harry; son: Harold (and Kitty) Ness; daughter: Peggy Ness Palmer; stepdaughters: Arlette (Arnie) Nelson, Janet (and Mark) Pladson and Beth (and Dean) Jones; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Oscar; and three brothers.
