WILLMAR - The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office and the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office are warning people of deteriorating ice conditions. The danger is especially noticeable around shorelines.
The Kandiyohi County Sheriff is requesting people not drive vehicles on the lake ice, as the warmer weather is causing the ice to melt.
On Saturday an ATV went through the ice on Cedar Island Lake in Stearns County.
According to a Stearns County Sheriff’s Office news release, the driver of the ATV, Brian James Will, 43, of Sartell was pulling two adults and four children in a trailer when he came upon a large crack in the ice.
Will was unable to stop or avoid the break in the ice and the ATV went into the water.
No one was hurt in the incident. All were able to get out of the water and onto the island. The Chain of Lakes Fire and Rescue assisted in getting everyone to shore safely.
In the release the Stearns County Sheriff Office is asking for caution when venturing out on the ice, especially with the warmer weather forecasted this week.
