BENSON -- Kendall O. Mortenson, 71, of Benson died Saturday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Benson. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the church and for one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Arrangements are with Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson.
He was born July 2, 1935, in Benson to Oliver and Vera (Thompson) Mortenson. He grew up in Cashel Township, attended country school through the eighth grade, and graduated from Benson High School in 1953. He attended Concordia College in Moorhead.

He married Gloria Long on Feb. 7, 1956, in Seattle, Wash. He worked for Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, Wash., for a short time, and then returned to the family farm. He farmed until 1985, worked construction, and eventually formed his own construction company, Sturdy Construction, which he continued until 1993. He worked at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church as custodian, and worked at Redball in Benson.
He was a member of Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church, and served as an usher and the cemetery sextant. He was a member of the Farmer's Union, the Putts and Purrs Tractor Club, the Cashel Township Board and the School Board of District 2210.
He is survived by his wife; children: Steven (and Laurie) Mortenson of Benson, Jonathan (and Gayla Wielenga) Mortenson of LaMars, Iowa, Dale (and Pamela Kleidon) Mortenson of Spicer, Susan (and David) Anfinson of Willmar; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Darlene Anderson of Portland, Ore., and Arlys Isaacson of Redmond, Wash.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister.
