WILLMAR -- Kermit R. Holmgren, 100, of Willmar, formerly of Pennock, died Tuesday, at Bethesda Pleasantview in Willmar.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Salem Covenant Church in rural Pennock. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

He was born July 21, 1906, in Pennock to Otto and Emma (Nelson) Holmgren. He grew up in Mamre Township and attended District 15 North country school. He farmed with his parents and brother in Mamre Township and also worked in trucking. He moved to Pennock in 1938 and opened a blacksmith shop.

He married Gladyce Johnson on March 4, 1933. They lived in Pennock. Gladys died in 1963.

He married Pearl (Nelson) Stier on Oct. 29, 1965. He retired in 1973. They lived in Pennock and then moved to Willmar in 1981. They entered Sunrise Village Assisted Living in 1999. Pearl died in 2001.,

He was a member of Salem Covenant Church where he served as deacon and Sunday school teacher. He served as Pennock's mayor, fire chief and on the school board member. He volunteered with the Kandiyohi County Historical Society, and was grand marshall of the parade for the 2006 Pennock Days.

He is survived by his daughters: Arlene (and Orrian) Syverson of Willmar, Marian (and Stan) Ecklund of Cupertino, Calif.; five grandchildren; five stepchildren; and several stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wives; one grandson; one brother and two sisters.
