ST. PAUL – Zach Carlson of the KMS Fighting Saints and Maverick Whitcomb of the ACGC Falcons each won third-place matches Saturday evening on the second day of the Class A Individual Wrestling Tournament at the Xcel Energy Center.
Carlson (46-1), a junior who sustained his only loss of the season in the semifinals, decisioned Luke Norland (45-5) of Jackson County Central 11-4.
Whitcomb (46-4), a senior who lost a 3-1 match in the quarters then shredded three straight foes to reach the third-place match, shut out Tim Krueger of River Valley, Springfield, 14-0.
In other medal matches, Colten Specht of Quad County (RCW, MACCRAY, YME), placed sixth at 120-pounds AA to earn the second-year tri-pair’s first State medal. Logan Knoshal, at 138 AA , of United and Devin Meagher of Paynesville at 152 A also placed sixth as did United heavyweight Jake Lehman, losing 4-2 in the fourth overtime period. United is a composition of Dawson-Boyd, Lac qui Parle Valley and Montevideo.
