Lac qui Parle Valley School Board gives OK to personnel appointments

MADISON -- The Lac qui Parle Valley School Board approved four personnel appointments during its Monday night meeting.

Jeremy Michaelson was hired as special education technician at Milan for three hours per day; Amanda Lowry was hired as speech and language assistant from Dec. 5-22; and Jennifer Tostenson was hired as high school physical education and health teacher for one period per day from Oct. 4 to Jan. 19.

Susie Olson, who had been a long-term high school biology substitute from Aug. 30 to Oct. 18, returned to her position as full-time high school substitute from Oct. 23 to June 1.

Olson had temporarily replaced high school biology teacher Jeremy Brady. Brady returned this week after serving with the National Guard in Iraq.

He had taken military leave during all of the previous school year and during the fall of this school year, Superintendent Robert Munsterman said.

In other business during the meeting, senior Jameson Siegert received a National Merit Scholarship certificate of commendation from High School Principal Jon Fulton and counselor Paul Lowry. Siegert was honored for scoring in the top 5 percent of 1.4 million students who took the SAT.

The board also:

- Voted to buy a 2007 Ford van for $18,222 from Parkview Ford of Montevideo through the state bid system. Parkview also has a Chevrolet dealership in Madison.

- Approved the price quote of $16,420 from Ban-Koe of Sioux Falls, S.D., to upgrade the gym sound system.
