WILLMAR -- The Ridgewater Lady Warriors opened the volleyball season with three matches Saturday at its own invitational.
Wins over Ellsworth, Iowa, 30-27, 30-21 and Bismarck, N.D., 30-25, 30-19 sandwiched a loss to Des Moines Area Community College 30-17, 30-26.
Des Moines, a NJCAA Division I national tournament entrant in 2006, went 5-0 over two days, never losing a game. The Bears were the only unbeaten team among the nine teams that played here over two days (Ridgewater scheduled no matches on Friday).
Leading hitters for the Lady Warriors were Brittany TerWisscha with 20 kills in 44 attempts, then Hilary Groothuis with 18 kills, Jordan Olerud with 17 and Leah Miller with 16.
Jackie Noyes had 12 kills and six ace blocks. In the back row, Ashley Hennen had 30 digs and also served up four aces.
