ST. CLOUD -- Having played only exhibition games three weeks ago and the first part of its scheduled postponed, the Ridgewater softball team was anxious to play.
The Lady Warriors finally got to open Monday, coming away with a doubleheader sweep of St. Cloud Technical College, the newest member of the Minnesota Community College Conference.
Ignited by Laura Suter's one-hit shutout that featured 14 strikeouts, Ridgewater used a 13-hit attack to open with a 9-0 win. The Lady Warriors scored all their runs in the first two innings in their 6-0 win in the second game.
"The girls were excited to play," said Ridgewater coach Todd Thorstad. "Overall we played good defense. The wind caused some problems, but I was happy the way we hit the ball. We did leave a number of runners in scoring position, but we'll have to change that."
Ridgewater (2-0, 2-0) left 16 runners on base in the twinbill, 10 in the opener and six in the second game.

Suter struck out the side in the first, third and sixth innings while issuing just two walks. The freshman from Murdock also doubled in two runs at the plate in the seventh.
Ridgewater erupted for five runs in the second inning, highlighted by Jenny Berge's two-run double.
Julie Vosejpka supplied two RBI singles and Suzie Zander knocked in two runs for the Lady Warriors. Vosejpka, Zander and Mallory Peterson had three hits apiece.

Peterson scored on Heather Hammond's single and Berge singled in Hammond and Suter in the first inning to open the scoring for Ridgewater. Vosejpka doubled in Suter and Peterson in the second before scoring on a pass ball to complete the scoring for the Lady Warriors.
Angie Flaten surrendered only two hits and two walks while striking out four to pick up the win for Ridgewater.
