LAKE LILLIAN -- The Lake Lillian City Council will appoint a new mayor in January, after the recipient of the most write-in votes declined the job.
City Council member Ken Wittman did not seek the mayor's post, but received the most write-in votes with 13 in the Nov. 6 election.
Council members declared him the winner of the mayor's election at their meeting on Nov. 13. He informed them he is declining the position.
No one had filed for the post.
City Clerk Susan Jungclaus said the four City Council members in place now must appoint one of them as mayor when they meet in January. At the same time, they will declare an open position on the City Council and appoint someone to fill it for two years.

Since it is a four-year term, the position will be placed on the ballot in the next general election and voters will decide who will fill the term for the final two years.
Ross Wittman is currently serving as mayor of Lake Lillian. His term expires at the end of the year.
