WILLMAR -- LaVaughn Jean Kleist, 74, of Willmar died Monday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar from complications of a stroke she suffered a week earlier.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Covenant Church in Willmar. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

She was born June 24, 1931, in Willmar to Theodore and Hylma (Anderson) Linstrom. When she was 11, her parents died and she lived with her sisters in Michigan. She returned to Willmar in 1948 and lived with Rolland and Vivian Swenson. She graduated from Willmar High School and attended the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis.

She married Renold McGillivray on Aug. 25, 1956. They lived in the Twin Cities. Renold died in 1965.

She married Eldon Kleist on Nov. 27, 1970. They lived in southern California where Eldon taught high school and she worked as a bookkeeper and nanny. Eldon died in 1989. She moved to Kandiyohi in 1995 and was self-employed as a nanny.

She was a member of First Covenant Church in Willmar and active in Sunday school, as a church volunteer, Dorcas and Covenant Women. She was a member of the Women's Club of Kandiyohi, Quilting Club, Meals on Wheels and MOPS.

She is survived by her children: Scott (and Joyce) McGillivray of Kandiyohi, Shawn (and Judy) Kleist of Willmar, Shannon (and Rick) Baxter of Riverside, Calif.; nine grandchildren; three foster grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister: Marguerite Twedt of Willmar.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; four brothers and two sisters.
