Legion Baseball: Kerkhoven routs Tri-Town; now 12-0

ATWATER -- Kerkhoven recorded 15 hits and scored at least two runs in every inning but one en route to a 14-4, six-inning in over Tri-Town in Legion baseball action Thursday.

Kerkhoven (12-0) scored seven runs in the first three innings, then added five more in the fourth. The only inning the team failed to score was the fifth.

Ten players had at least one hit for Kerkhoven, led by Jared Johnson with three hits, including a double. Jason Fernholz and Nate Schlagel had two hits each.

Tri-Town (9-6) had 10 hits, led by Justin Schroeder, who had two hits and two RBI. Micah Nordin also had two hits, including a double, and one RBI.

Benson 13, West Central 4

Benson (5-5) scored all the runs it would need in the first inning. Preston Flolo and Jake Erickson hit back-to-back doubles to drive in a run each and Kris Rittenour's double knocked home two more for a 5-1 lead.

Aaron Hagen led Benson with a double, a triple and two runs scored. Brett Jensen and Mack Grunig also had two hits each.

Grunig picked up the win in relief. He pitched the last 4Zc innings, allowing three hits and striking out four batters.

Montevideo 9, Madison 6

Montevideo (9-3) sent nine guys to the plate in the fourth to produce six runs and take a 6-5 lead.

Mike Amborn came off the bench and laid down a suicide squeeze bunt in the fifth to knock in the eventual winning run for Montevideo, which overcame eight errors.

Brock Kanstrup scored twice and Matt Enger doubled and drove in a run for Madison (4-2).

Brian Pieh and Andy Hadley singled in runs in the fourth to put New London-Spicer (8-5) ahead 3-2 before Matt Dreier capped the scoring later in the inning with a two-run triple.

Hadley also singled in Scott Rambow, who had doubled, in the second to give NLS a 1-0 lead. Hadley threw two innings of relief to earn the win. Pieh struck out the side in the seventh to earn a save.
