PAYNESVILLE -- Paynesville won twice Friday to pull within three wins of a District 6, Division II American Legion baseball title.
Paynesville beat Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 12-8 and Pierz 3-2 in elimination games. The host team will face Cross Lake in the loser's bracket final at 11 a.m. today in Paynesville. The winner of that game plays Bertha-Hewitt at 1:30 p.m. for the championship.

Paynesville's six-run sixth inning overcame a 7-3 BBE lead.
Paynesville had four RBI singles and scored on an error and a passed ball in the frame. Jon Kerzman had two hits.
Brett Savelkoul also tripled in two runs.
Jordan Beier went 3-for-5 to lead BBE (8-6). Austin Kampsen, Josh Roelike, Tom Schroeder and Josh Beier had two hits each.

Mike Wendlandt walked with the bases loaded and Nathan Nietfeld hit an RBI single in the sixth inning to give Paynesville a 2-1 lead.
Paynesville added a run in the seventh on a Shane Kampsen single.
Colin Spooner went 3-for-4 to lead Paynesville. Nietfeld added two hits.
Jon Kerzman scattered six hits in seven innings for the win.
