Montevideo was the only top seed to advance to the District 7, Division II Final Four which begins Tuesday in Montevideo.

Montevideo, the No. 1 seed in the Southwest sub-section, topped Granite Falls 17-7 on Saturday, then edged Cottonwood 5-4 on Sunday.

Glenwood, the No. 2 seed in the Northeast sub-section, upset top-seeded Kerkhoven. Fairfax, No. 2 in the Southwest, knocked off No. 1 MACCRAY.

No report was available on the championship game in the Northwest between No. 1 Wheaton and No. 2 Morris.

Montevideo 17, Granite Falls 7

John Schmidt belted a two-run homer and drove in four runs in all for Montevideo.

James Gallagher went 3-for-3, including a pair of doubles. Mike Hinde and Brady Johnson had two hits apiece.

Tyler Kanten worked five innings for the win, allowing seven hits and six earned runs. He walked none and struck out three.

Mike Brustuen had two hits for Granite Falls.

Cottonwood took a 10-3 lead in the top half of the fourth inning after sending up 14 batters and producing 10 runs on six hits in the frame. Cottonwood, which had Cody Fruin double three times to knock in seven runs, then plated seven more runs in the sixth on four hits after sending up nine batters.

Mitch Schwindt drove in four of Sacred Heart's six runs with a three-run homer in the fourth and a double in the sixth.

Cottonwood advanced to the championship game by producing 13 hits, giving them 30 hits in two games. Cottonwood scored in every inning but the third and fourth and had Josh Ramos and Tyler Peterson collect three hits each.

Granite Falls cut Cottonwood's lead to three after Zach Morris hit a two-run double that was followed by Jordan Gaffaney's solo home run. Morris also had a sacrifice fly in the first. Taylor Tollefson had three of Granite Falls' nine hits.

Mike Hinde singled in the winning run with one out in the last of the seventh inning.

James Gallagher hurled a five-hitter with 11 strikeouts to put Montevideo into the Final Four.

John Schmidt led off the seventh for Montevideo by getting hit by a pitch. Mike Amborn pinch ran for him and reached second when Payton Schultz reached on a error. Josh Anderson ran for Schultz and Montevideo loaded the bases when Jake Karels reached on another error. Gallagher then singled home Amborn with the tying run and Hinde singled home Anderson with the winning run.

Benson outhit Madison 7-4, but Madison starting pitcher Ryan Sigdahl was backed by an errorless defense. Sigdahl, who also shined on offense, worked all seven innings, striking out four along the way, to earn the win.

Four Benson errors in the fourth led to five unearned runs for Madison. Sigdahl highlighted the frame with a three-run homer.

Madison's only earned run came in the sixth when Sigdahl drew a walk, stole second base and scored on Tony Ludvigson's single.

Kerkhoven shook off losing for only the second time on the season earlier in the day to eliminate Madison (11-5).

Darrin Carlson went 3-for-3, including a two-run double in the second inning that proved to be the winning hit, and Jared Johnson drove in two runs with a single and a double to ignite Kerkhoven. Carlson also worked all seven innings on the mound to pick up the win.

Eddie Massee drove in Brock Kanstrup with a single and Matt Enger later drove in Massee with another single in the first for Madison.
