LITCHFIELD -- Leland Avon Provencher, 90, of Litchfield died Thursday at the Meeker County Memorial Hospital.
The service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Litchfield. Burial will be at the Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Military honors will be provided by the Nelsan-Horton American Legion Post 104 and by Military Funeral Honors. Memorials are preferred to the United Methodist Church.
He was born on Sept. 26, 1917, in Cedar Mills Township, Meeker County, to Zephran and Izella (Beckstrand) Provencher.

He married Eva Manning on Aug. 25, 1942, in Litchfield. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He was a farmer southwest of Litchfield. In 1973, he moved closer to Litchfield. He then operated Midway Fertilizer and Chemical. He retired in 2001.
He was a member of; the Litchfield United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 104, where he was a commander. He was also a member of Admiral Benson VFW Post 2818 and the U.S. Army Sixth Ranger Battalion. He was recently honored for bravery while freeing prisoners of war in Cabanatuan in the Philippines in 1945
He is survived by his wife; two sons: Lance Provencher of Litchfield and Van (and Marcia) Provencher of Litchfield; one daughter: Evalee (and Tom) Risley of St. Cloud; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two daughters in infancy, eight brothers and two sisters.
