LOWRY -- Leo Thorwald Dahl, 93, of Lowry died Thursday at Knute Nelson Home in Alexandria.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lowry. Burial will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck.

He was born on Dec. 19, 1912, in Plainview, S.D., to Signe Dahl. The family moved to Lowry when he was 12. He operated a stock truck driving company. He served in the armed forces in World War II.

He owned and operated the Dahl House in Lowry for 14 years with his wife, Blanche. He started Dahl Skelly Oil Company in 1959. He retired and sold the business in 1977.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, was mayor of Lowry for two terms, and was a member of the Lowry Fire Department for 30 years. He helped develop the Lowry Community Park, hauled bins for Lowry Manufacturing and delivered Meals on Wheels to fellow seniors. He was a charter member of the Lowry Lions Club, American Legion, and Lowry Senior Center. He was the Lions Club Citizen of the Year in 1983; and grand marshall of the Lowry Centennial Parade in 1986.

He is survived by his third wife, Adeline (Aslakson Nelson) Dahl of Alexandria; daughter: Barbara (and Jim) Moir of Charleston, Ore.; stepdaughters: Marcia Nelson of Burnsville, Vonnie (and Charles) Johnson of Fort Dodge, Iowa; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded by two wives, Blanche (Severson) Dahl and Emily (Bjorklund) Dahl.
