Leona 'Honey' Burke Sept. 29, 1916 - July 31, 2008 WILLMAR -- Leona Louisa "Honey" Burke, 91, of Champlin, formerly of Willmar, died Thursday at St. Therese Home in New Hope. The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar.

WILLMAR -- Leona Louisa "Honey" Burke, 91, of Champlin, formerly of Willmar, died Thursday at St. Therese Home in New Hope.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with a 7 p.m. Daughters of Isabella rosary, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.

She was born Sept. 29, 1916, in Chicago to Earl and Clara (Miller) McGreer. The family moved in 1919 to Willmar, where she grew up and attended school, graduating from Willmar High School.

She married Ralph Burke on June 12, 1935. She moved to the Twin Cities in 2004.

She was a member of the Church of St. Mary and was active with the Daughters of Isabella. She was also active with the Brownies, Birthright, Epilepsy League and the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion auxiliaries.

She is survived by her children: Bernard (and Geneva) Burke of St. Michael, Mary (and Donald) Emberland of Maple Grove and Maureen (and Daniel) Gauer of New Market; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister: Shelia (and Bill) Duffy of Mashpee, Mass.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2004; an infant son: Jim; an infant daughter: Colleen; one grandson and one granddaughter.
