MORGAN -- Leonard Jens Hansen, 85, of Morgan died Saturday at Gil-Mor Manor in Morgan.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Morgan. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Bethany Lutheran Cemetery. Nelson-Martin Funeral Service of Morgan is handling arrangements.

He was born on Nov. 9, 1921, to Hans and Minnie (Hansen) Hansen on the family homestead in Morgan. He attended country school and Morgan High School. He farmed most of his life, beginning at the age of 15 when his father died.

He married Violet Luepke on Dec. 16, 1942, in New Ulm. He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Morgan and served on the church council. He played the trumpet and bass horn and performed in the Morgan City Band and with dance bands, in his own band, and with Johnny Helget Band, which made several recordings.

He is survived by his wife, and children: Judy (and Pete) Panitzke of Sauk Centre, Carol (and Ken) Podratz of Granite Falls, and Dale (and Karen) Hansen of Morgan; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister: Ruth (and Harold) Kalk of Morgan; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, triplet siblings and a granddaughter.
