HECTOR -- LeRoy Allen Henry "Bud" Zempel, 69, of Hector died Monday at his home, after a long battle with cancer.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hector.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the Hughes Funeral Home in Hector and for one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
He was born Dec. 25, 1937, in Litchfield to Leo and Nona (Wolf) Zempel. He attended grade school in Litchfield and graduated from Monticello High School in 1955. He attended St. Cloud State College.

He married Maxine Kragenbring on Dec. 26, 1959, in Atwater. He served in the Army National Guard from 1959 to 1966. He was a sales representative for Burman Plumbing and Heating of Willmar and Alexandria for three years. He and his father-in-law purchased Johnson's Our Own Hardware in Hector in 1963. He owned and operated the hardware store for 44 years.
He was a member of the chamber of commerce and supported various community projects. He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served on the church council.
He is survived by his wife; three sons: Todd (and Angie) of Colo., Darren (and Shelby) of Owatonna and Philip of Sauk Center; four grandchildren; and one step-grandson.
He was preceded in death by three infant children.
