BIRD ISLAND -- Lester Vernon Wittman, 75, of rural Bird Island died Saturday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
The service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Bird Island. Burial will be at Bird Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to the time of the service on Thursday.
He was born Feb. 17, 1930, in Clayton, Iowa, to Fred and Lena (Winch) Wittman. The family moved to Lansing, Iowa, when he was 5, to Lake Lillian when he was seven, and to Osceola Township in rural Bird Island when he was 9. He attended District 90 country school in Osceola Township and received his GED high school diploma when he was 38.

He married Patricia Dworshak on Nov. 24, 1956, in Bird Island. He farmed and did seasonal truck driving. He retired from farming when he was 65. He worked as a gravel truck driver for Miller & Miller Inc., in Olivia, and for one season for Gravel Express. He retired when he was 71.
He is survived by his wife; children: Galen (and Marcy) Wittman of Hutchinson, Linda (and Brian) Radloff of Cosmos; one grandson; and one brother: Elmer (and Leonette) Wittman of Hector.
He was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
