Bills to exempt Minnesota state tax for active and retired military pay have been offered many times in the Minnesota House this session as well as last session. Leaders on the tax committee continue to oppose this benefit to those who have served and are serving our country. It seems one party doesn't think this is an important way to honor those who serve our country. The governor favors this initiative and would like to see it reinstated. We had this tax break before and it was taken away from us in 1987.

I can't believe that we have politicians who say they support the troops and then turn around and slap us in the face. Some of us have served many years in the military and those who have gone to war have made a great sacrifice for us and their families. Without the military we would not have our freedoms.
