I have been a resident of Atwater for approximately 30 years. I was involved with the school at the time of the consolidation and at the time the school was built. I feel that the building of the school facility has long been water under the bridge. Now, more than anything else, I feel that residents of the towns are more concerned with the waste of funds.
There seems to be no accountability for the money that has been spent. I don't feel that handing the administration a blank check to do with what they will is the answer. However, if those of you who feel that the school is in dire need of money to function without any questions asked, I have a solution. Everyone who voted yes for the levy should each give the school district $200 per year.
This would increase the money for the district by $207,200 each year and the students who feel they are being short-changed could have their employers send half of the paycheck they earn directly to the school. This way they could be responsible for the education they receive. The school district is allowed to accept financial donations at any time.
This would be a good solution, as those who want to have more money spent could do so, and those who don't would not have to worry about it. It would also be appreciated by the general population of Atwater if everyone would look at the number of votes cast by each district and notice that the levy only passed by a few votes in Grove City. It is not just our town that has some reservations.
