After watching the Senate hearings to determine who was to blame over the almost unbelievable ineptitude in the Katrina disaster, I'm convinced that our commander-in-chief, along with his political stooge Michael Chertoff, should shoulder most of the blame. Even worse, it didn't take President Bush long to fire the FEMA head, Michael Brown.
Having a close relationship with two people who work for FEMA, I have discovered some important facts about it. First of all, what is FEMA? FEMA is the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which is designed to coordinate other agencies in response to federal disasters such as Hurricane Katrina. It seems that FEMA is divided into two parts: one does the actual coordinating and the other does some of the actual work. It seems that the head of Homeland Security, headed by Michael Chertoff, was very derelict in properly funding FEMA, which was left totally unfunded and undermanned.
When we see graphic photos of dead bodies floating in rest homes five days after the storm has passed, one can't help but think this must be Bangladesh or Sri Lanka, but certainly not the United States. It's been estimated that there are still dead bodies in the wreckage close to the broken dikes.
It seems that Bush was at his ranch and in California while all of this horrendous tragedy was taking place. Would it be fair to suggest that he was hunting quail with his vice president or just what was he doing?
