The Barn Theatre Board of Directors thanks the West Central Tribune for bringing to its attention a mistake in the program for "Barefoot in the Park" that might have violated the Internal Revenue Service regulations regarding political campaign intervention and 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. The issue was discussed and resolved by the board during the 2004 campaign season. Due to staff turnover since that time, the current staff in 2006 was not aware of the previous occurrence and a mistake was made.
When the comments in question were pointed out to the Barn leadership the program was changed immediately. No public distribution of the 2006 program was made during any performance. It is the Barn Theatre's policy to comply in all respects with the IRS regulations pertaining to 501(c)(3) organizations. New staff and board members will be informed of this policy when they begin their responsibilities. The Board thanks its volunteers and patrons for their ongoing support.
