"Make a difference day" was Saturday, Oct. 21. Two men in Willmar made a tremendous difference in our area when they so generously gave of their finances to sponsor the beautiful statue of a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps erected out by the Flags of Honor. What a wonderful tribute to those men.

Forty-one young men from Willmar and Kandiyohi County were inducted into the Conservation service on July 4, 1934. My husband was one. He was so proud of being in the CMTC and CCC. They worked at Osage and Lake City. Franklin Roosevelt was our president.

I went back to attend the dedication only to find it so cold, windy, and snowing. I took pictures and came home, wondering where all the people were. Two other cars were there when I left. This was Wednesday. On Friday I called Herb Amundson. He said the dedication had been moved to the auditorium and was announced on the radio. We don't all listen to the radio! There wasn't even a sign at the statue stating that!
