Now that the Democrats have assumed a majority role, in both houses of Congress, they better be made aware of the tremendous burden that was placed on their shoulders when they take the reins in January. They have to prove they were right in regard to the war on terror, or face the possibility of once again losing control in the 2008 presidential election.
They must come up with a workable solution before then, or they not only stand to lose control of Congress, they also run the risk of losing the 2008 presidential election. The next few months are going to be critical for both parties. If President Bush's plan for Iraq turns out to have been the right choice, it's going to be very difficult for the Democrats to compete in the 2008 election.
History will be the judge of what happens in Iraq. However, that will take several years. The short term should indicate whether a new plan was needed to prevent Iraq from falling into the hands of the terrorists. The mid-term elections could prove to have serious implications for both parties.
"Cooperation" seems to be the operative word. However, as things stand now, I don't see a lot of movement coming from either side. This will become more and more evident, as the honeymoon period draws to an end.
I could be wrong in my assessment. However, in any event, time will dictate who was right or who was wrong regarding the war on terrorism.
