I noticed with some interest your story on Dean Johnson last week about his election loss. He complained bitterly about the campaign and some organizations, including Minnesota Citizens in Defense of Marriage. He suggested that our advertisements had no accountability to the truth.
But the truth of the matter is that every claim made in our advertisements was backed up by factual references, including the official Journal of the Senate. In this same interview, Johnson flatly admits that he killed the marriage amendment because his caucus was afraid it would increase Republican turnout. If a legislative leader decides to kill an important piece of legislation for purely political reasons, he has no right to expect anything other than a political response. And that is exactly what Dean Johnson got.
His personal views are irrelevant to the process. His actions, on the other hand, are extremely relevant.
