Everyone enjoys a successful football season with having more wins than losses, but we sometimes forget that the players are student-athletes. The Minnesota Coaches Association changed the format a little this year for academic champions from each section to each class, awarding them the following distinctions:
The top eight teams with the highest grade point average for each class would receive the Gold Standard. The next eight teams would receive the Silver Standard. The next eight teams would receive the Bronze Standard.
Willmar is proud to have been awarded the Gold Standard for Class 4A. That means we were in the top eight teams with the highest cumulative G.P.A. There are 61 teams in our class. To put it into perspective, since 2000 under the old and new systems, we have been academic champions and have been within the top eight in our class for each of those years.
