Constitutional amendments are costly, time-consuming, and very serious business. If we really need to protect the institution of marriage with an amendment, it is very important to cover all possibilities with this effort and treat marriage with the sacredness it deserves. Has anyone thought deeply enough to decide what the amendment should say about transsexuals that want to get married? We need to be very comprehensive with this amendment.
If a man changes his sex to a woman and wants to marry, should she have to marry a woman because she is really a man (only God can make a man or a woman), or should she have to marry a man now that she is a woman? This issue needs to be cleared up before worrying about insignificant things like poverty, crime, stadiums, homeland security, and the environment.
Let us protect marriage by making all future divorces illegal unless both parties repay all the family tax benefits, insurance benefits, and any other family membership break they get over single people. Let's hold future divorced parents personally and financially responsible if any of their children turn out to be criminals or fail to achieve in school. President Bush will fine any public school that leaves even one maladjusted child behind, and blames the public school for what society gave them to work with. What God has put together, let no man put asunder.
The current proposed amendment is not about morals and the preservation of marriage. It is about a majority of people discriminating against a minority. That is exactly what the constitution is supposed to protect everyone from. Maybe we need a constitutional amendment making constitutional amendments illegal.
