A few weeks ago I expressed my opinion in the West Central Tribune concerning high fuel prices. The recession I expected has arrived. The housing market is leading the way. Thankfully, Washington has noticed and is in the process of enacting legislation to give the common citizens a scrap of relief. As per the media, every family will receive $600 to $1,200 relief. Truthfully, that is just a drop in the bucket alongside of large credit and credit card debt.
Just say this next week your family receives a check for, say, $800. What would you do with it: Drive to the casino, play Powerball or pull-tabs? Or pay up some credit card debt? Buy the new TV advertised at Wal-Mart? The wisest way to handle it is deposit it in the bank. Save it so when our august legislators in St. Paul raise your taxes, they know you got it. It's happened before and will happen again.
