As the election approaches, the voters are being asked to make decisions as to whom they will vote for a wide variety of public offices. In today's world, party lines are becoming blurred, with many voters choosing to vote for the candidate whose views most nearly match their own. Thus it is important for all candidates to share their views and ideas with the public, so that voters can make an informed decision as to how they will cast their ballot. Because we live in a republic, it is essential that the voting public knows as much as possible about a candidate's views, plans, and ideas because the candidate who is elected is our voice in government.
I feel that it is sad that Dr. David Detert, House candidate from District 18B, will not share his proposed health care plan with the voters before the upcoming election. The public has the right to be informed on this candidate's main issue so that the voting citizens of the district may make an informed decision. An informed public is the best way to insure good government.
Dr. Detert's position reminds me of a quote by the late Senator Paul Wellstone, "Those who won't stand up for what they believe in, believe in nothing."
