Have you ever tried to find a parking space in downtown Willmar? It's a joke, isn't it? The city of Willmar had better pay attention if they want the downtown to prosper. I know of three or four buildings downtown that are vacant, or will become vacant soon.
I say we bulldoze them and put in parking ramps. Why not? There are more businesses in downtown Willmar than there are at the Kandi Mall. The only reason the malls are full is because they have adequate parking. I have been to other cities comparable to the size, if not smaller than, Willmar and there are parking ramps everywhere.
The city is thinking about putting in easier access from the east and from the west to the downtown business district and hospital. I think it is a great idea but where are we going to park these potential customers and patients? I have a feeling they're going straight through because they can't find a place to park. Let's all agree. Willmar is 15 to 20 years behind the times when it comes to parking. They better put parking ramps in before the downtown goes out. P.S. Please try to leave space for the fire trucks.
