I have heard a lot of griping about the price of gas, and I too wish it was less, but let's look at the facts we know. Crude oil costs $75 a barrel, a barrel holds 50 gallons, that's $1.50. The tax is probably close to 50 cents, that's $2.
I don't know how many gallons of gas you get from a barrel of crude, but I am sure it is not 50, so you still have to pay all the personnel and workers involved in processing, transporting, profit to seller (gas station), equipment repair, additives, etc., and still make a profit for the company.
I have heard that the company makes an average of 10 cents a gallon. That adds up to a lot of money, but think how much it would cost if the government were to take over. Be glad we have gas to use, it is the American way. We could be like the French paying about $6.50 or so a gallon!
