The author of the April 6 Public Forum letter, "Reach out to outcasts," apparently has a problem with my April 3 "Phony gay marriage tactics" letter in which I said the American Psychiatric Association pulled homosexual behavior from their list of disorders in 1973 because of pressure tactics from the homosexual activist movement, not because it had any scientific backing.
He apparently thinks the APA did the removal based on scientific research. Fine, he (or anyone else) should now direct us to that research. I am calling his bluff -- where is the scientific evidence for the "change is not possible" belief?
He also says: "We need to make our community more welcome to GLBT youth who are struggling with their sexuality." I agree, and we start by telling them the truth, then direct them to reparative therapy (like NARTH) and spiritual truth (which they are free to reject or accept). Only when they accept truth and act on it will they be able to leave the self-destructive, depressing lifestyle.
