Joe Gimse's family values are not my family values. Gimse refused to take responsibility for his family, pushing them onto welfare. It took the court system to force him to take responsibility for his family. Family values can't be legislated.
The government's role is providing good roads, keeping taxes fair, making sure tax money is spent wisely, providing funding for our public schools, and keeping health care within reach. My family values are personal and include taking responsibility for my family. If someone like Gimse wants to tell me how I'm going to live, he better be able to show me that he's lived by those values. Accepting anything less is hypocrisy. Joe Gimse thinks he can tell us what family values are but we all know better.
