Vern's not here to listen to me and my little dog doesn't really care -- so I'm gonna say it to all of you out there. Last Tuesday night I had a heart attack so my son, Brad, took me to the emergency room at Rice Hospital and from there I went by ambulance to the St. Cloud Hospital and had surgery -- had a stent put in -- the surgery went well, but I lost a concerning amount of blood and my blood pressure dropped and they couldn't get it back up so Friday they gave me two pints of blood. Wow! What an experience!

After it was attached, they left me alone and I thought, "What a miracle and how thankful and grateful we should be for our bloodmobile system." I felt actually proud to be receiving it -- it felt so good -- because I have donated over the years. I'm working on my third gallon (that's a lot for me). It takes about 20 minutes to give blood and one and a half to two hours to receive it.

My point here is: When the bloodmobile is coming to your area, please give! If your town or county doesn't work out for you, go to the next one. They tell us we can "come as we are" (maybe that's why it is usually after the dinner hour -- they don't want us to come in our pajamas). But, if you are unable to give blood but need it at some time, feel grateful and thankful it is available. God doesn't choose "do's and don'ts" and neither does the bloodmobile. Thanks for listening and god bless.

P.S. Here's the chuckle: I'm quite sure the blood I was given was fine "German" blood, because I received it in the evening and it was up and percolating early in the morning just like Vern's German cup of coffee was always up bright and early every morning -- uff-da! Have a great day!
