Do you have room in your home for a new friend?

We recently returned a kitty to the Humane Society because I discovered that I've become allergic to cats. We had adopted a cute 8-month-old gray tiger for our 3-year-old daughter, Grace. She loves animals, especially "kitties," and we thought now was the time to add one to our family. He was so cute and affectionate, loved to be around Grace, the two were great buddies.

Sadly, the watery eyes and itchy skin that I hoped I could get over became worse. With much sadness, we decided the kitty needed to go back.

Grace was very brave, telling us it would be OK.

The night before we brought the kitty back, I asked Grace what song she'd like to sing: "Twinkle Twinkle, ABCs, what would you like?" "Pray for kitty?" she asked in a voice too angelic to ever deny. "That sounds like a good idea!" I replied, trying hard to swallow down the lump in my throat. And so we prayed, we prayed that the kitty would always have a warm place to sleep, plenty of food to eat and a family to love him.

Luckily, Willmar has a great animal shelter, and I don't need to worry about the kitty having a warm place to stay and plenty of food to eat, as long as the community continues to support this vital service.

I continue to hope and pray that the kitty will find a family to love him. So if you have room in your life for an affectionate friend, with a ceaseless supply of unconditional love to give, please stop by the Humane Society of Kandiyohi County and adopt this kitty or one of his furry friends. A variety of cats and dogs await new homes.

If you don't have room for a friend right now, or if you're like us and unable to have a friend because of any reason, consider donating or volunteering to help, I'm sure they would be happy to hear from you.

Please help answer Grace's prayer!
