Letter: Ill-conceived plan for seniors

A proposed assisted-living elder care facility located about as far from downtown Willmar and still be within city limits makes no sense to me whatsoever.

A proposed assisted-living elder care facility located about as far from downtown Willmar and still be within city limits makes no sense to me whatsoever.

Permitting such a large complex, out beyond our closer-in ambulance, medical and social networks seems ill-conceived. Imagine a wonderful facility closer to the downtown proper. It would mean less travel for all concerned as well as integrating the residents into the community rather than plopping them out in a cornfield north of town.

Nationally, developing and planning, yes; real planning, to make elder facilities a part of a community is the way to a better place for all to live. Locating them in a for-profit facility out on a county road gives me pause.

Willmar deserves better from our civic leaders than a sign-off on this deal. Location does matter. The Planning Commission's meeting on Sept. 12 hopefully will deliberate wisely.
