Mayor Les Heitke, Sen. Dean Johnson, and Rep. Al Juhnke did an outstanding job acknowledging CCC's history, contributions and statewide importance in rural America in the 1930s.

It was very interesting to hear how President Roosevelt's CCCs planted tree lines and built many roads and parks like Sibley State Park's buildings (to list only a few jobs done by the CCC).

The ceremony was held in the Stone Room in the city auditorium. I would encourage you to view the Stone Room itself. Its walls are made with stones from every state. There's a mural of history painted on the borders.

This Thursday through Saturday (today), the Stone Room will be open while the Veteran's Day display is in the city auditorium on Sixth Street.

This would be a great week to learn about our local veterans, volunteers and view history in rural America.

Thank you, city of Willmar and surrounding area, for a great job of preserving an interesting history!
