In reply to Dick Huesing's Oct. 23 West Central Tribune letter to the editor, as the chairperson of the Kandiyohi County Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life (a credible nonpartisan pro-life group) and compassionate advocate of life from conception to natural death, it is my responsibility to accurately depict our local legislator's voting records, political posturing, and statements to the media. Upon analyzing Sen. Dean Elton Johnson's account, the whole truth discloses his campaign claim of being pro-life as nothing more than political rhetoric.
Johnson didn't vote for the legislation that would have significantly saved lives of the unborn, such as the Abortion Regulation Act of 2006. This law would have prohibited our tax dollars being used for abortions. The cold hard fact, according to the Minnesota Department of Health, is 12 babies a day are aborted with our tax dollars. Thus, Johnson received a zero percent rating from MCCL and 100 percent from the NARAL pro-choice group.
Despite the real facts, recent DFL political radio commercials and campaign mailings are trying to persuade the constituents of Senate District 13 that Johnson is pro-life when he is not. They devised a false impression that Johnson was endorsed by the MCCL when he is not. After the truth was revealed by Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life, a vicious lie appeared, saying radical forces within the MCCL were attacking Dean Johnson because they are so angry that he won't bend to their ways. It's time for the lies and mean-spirited attacks to stop.
