In a letter in Tuesday's West Central Tribune, I was accused of taking $1,000 a day in per diem, a charge so ridiculous I spit out my coffee when I read it. (Sorry again, Claire.)
This is what the Republican campaign against me has been reduced to -- outright lying and making stuff up. Republicans won't run on their record on issues like education, jobs or health care because then they'd have to explain why class sizes are exploding, college tuition is skyrocketing and why so many Minnesotans have lost their health care coverage.
They also won't run against my record because they know I've stood up for rural communities and fought for good schools, affordable health care and good-paying jobs.
Instead, they toss mud -- including personal attacks about my appearance -- and hope some of it sticks.
I trust the voters of District 13B will see these attacks for what they are: the desperate actions of a party willing to do anything to hang onto power. This is not the kind of leadership we need in St. Paul.
