It's hard to imagine that here in rural America our rights for self-government are at risk. Local control by grassroots government (township and county) is the heart and soul of our democracy and best represents the interests of local communities.
Recently, large agribusiness giants have come up against resistance by local communities who want to be part of the discussion regarding mega-feedlots in Minnesota. Two years ago there was an effort by some Minnesota legislators to add more notice and requirements to a township that was interested in implementing some common-sense limits on the size of these extremely large feedlots.
Defending our democratic rights should be a basic principle that everyone believes in. However, the influence of Big Ag is powerful and some legislators are not representing the best interests of the people from their district or society in general. Hal Kimball is energetic and excited to bring some common sense to St Paul and he would defend our democratic process and protect the rights of communities to decide what is in their back yard.
