I think this is a great idea and gives more opportunities for residents of Willmar to experience different foods from different cultures. My husband is from Pakistan and is a local physician in Willmar. We eat a lot of Indian foods; however, we usually travel to Minneapolis to purchase items we need to make these foods. It would be very convenient for us, among others interested in Indian foods, to purchase these items locally. It would also help Willmar's economy and diversity development.

Lists of some items that we purchase are naans (flat bread), spices, numerous spice mixes, Basmati rice, Basan flour, and Gripe water. This is just a start. The following are names of spice mixes needed to make the following dishes: Chappli Kababs -- hamburger-made patties with spices and vegetables; Chicken Tikka -- spicy, roasted chicken; Karahi -- a different spiced chicken dish; Sindhi Biryani -- rice/chicken dish; Murgh Cholay -- chicken/chickpea dish; and Nihari Curry -- spiced roast dish. There are many spice mixes to choose from and to make for different kinds of meats and/or vegetables.

I called and spoke with someone in the economic department. She stated that if more people are interested and state their interest, that maybe we could get some Indian spices, etc. My plea for the public is to contact by phone Kathy Schwantes at 235-7370 or Lourdez Schwab at 979-2272. You can also contact me at 214-7008 or e-mail sarabhatti@charter.net and I can relay the message or answer any questions. Please contact one of the above people if at all interested in Indian foods. They need to know that the demand is out there. Thank you much.
