Our Republican governor, Tim Pawlenty, who now heads up the National Governors' Conference, was recently re-elected by a hair's breadth because of his adamant refusal to raise taxes for the rapidly decaying infrastructure in Minnesota, or anything else for that matter.
The sudden collapse of the bridge in Minneapolis that has drawn national attention to a growing problem across the country seems to have caused in him a sudden conversion to the absolute necessity for a tax hike to pay for the dangerous neglect of our highways and bridges under his administration.
In fact, he is now about to call a special legislative session to address this very thing -- a raise in our gas tax to pay for the instant repair of our highways and bridges, and at the same time, I might add, eat a little crow!
