All of the residents of Willmar should applaud the City Council and the mayor for their desire to fix a problem of flooding in some sections of Willmar.
That being said, those same residents should be angry at the cockamamie way the council is trying to fix the problem, namely to assess a user fee (tax) to CenterPoint Energy which will be added to everyone's bill who uses natural gas.
I called the Municipal Utilities and asked the gentleman how many customers are hooked up to the steam heat from the Municipal Utilities. He informed me that it is not steam as was originally installed but now it is hot water.
He went on to tell me that currently there are approximately 100 businesses with the hot water heat and about 160 residences. In addition that does not take in account the people who heat with oil or electricity.
The question I have is why would the city council and the mayor want to penalize us with an added tax and let the above mentioned get a free ride?

In my opinion it is a citywide problem.
