This letter responds to claims from Renee Eustice from Ortonville (Public Forum, Oct. 27) regarding veterans support.

I don't know why she is mad at me for supposedly not supporting veterans because I tried to help her. It was Republican-majority political decisions made without consulting me that took the bill away. In short, another Republican took the bill to make me look bad. It happens more than readers may think. And then false charges show up in letters right before an election. Her participation in such activity is troubling. I serve on the Veterans Affairs Committee and have voted countless times to support veterans. And I dutifully attended many National Guard send-offs and homecomings in our area. Sometimes, I was the only representative to show up.

And as far as the Ortonville radio call-in show goes, there were several questions called in before I went on the air and I answered them. What surprised me is that they were all stacked towards my opponent who was on the air the day before.

The callers were clearly trying to push the distorted attacks of my opponent and Republican Speaker Steve Sviggum. But I answered the questions clearly: I support the Second Amendment and gun rights. I define marriage as between the opposite sex. And I support rural roads, not using the general fund to help metro-area transportation projects like my opponent stated in his answer to the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce survey. That would be a disaster for rural Minnesota budget fairness and take money away from us.
