I have a relative who lives a block from Green Lake and he is getting tired of the noise made by the motorboats and the loons (our state bird) on the lake. I am tired of the noise made by the trucks and motorcycles in Willmar. Well, duh! This makes as much sense as the people who are complaining about the train whistles.

Willmar is a railroad town. The town was developed because of the railroad. I lived in the north end for 23 years and loved to listen to the trains. The railroad is the most safety-conscious employer there is. Safety of employees and the public is their main concern.

My husband worked for the railroad for 37 years. The whistles are needed at crossings to warn the public of approaching trains. Employees are following strict rules and doing their job. The railroad was there when you bought or rented your homes, but you disregarded it and moved in anyway.

So let's get rid of noise from trucks, motorcycles, boats, trains, and those loons. If we have so much free time on our hands to worry about the train whistles, why don't we spend that time cleaning up our homes and yards and making Willmar a neater place to live?
