It is obvious that Dean Johnson and his supporters are attempting to limit the debates in this Senate race to only issues they want to talk about -- health care, education, transportation and renewable energy, to name a few. Yes, these are all important issues, but the fact is that both candidates care about these issues.

What separates the candidates most vividly is the social issues. In this election we are faced with one candidate, Dean Johnson, who used his power as majority leader to keep the Abortion Regulation Act from a vote on the Senate floor. That is why our tax dollars are still paying for abortions.

Also of great importance is the marriage amendment. Johnson has gone to great lengths to keep Minnesota citizens from being able to amend our constitution. He has gone so far as to risk his reputation to go against the majority -- polls show that 78 percent in Senate District 13 want to vote on the marriage amendment -- to keep the Defense of Marriage Act, which is obviously inadequate in today's political climate.

Nothing will change our lifestyle more than a change in the definition of the sanctity of marriage. It is dangerous to keep playing games with the basic structure of the family.

Please remember this when you vote on Nov. 7.
